Business email is the piece of the stack that decides how hard it is to leave everything else. Moving documents is an afternoon; moving twenty mailboxes, their calendars and a decade of history is the part teams postpone. The realistic options are a dedicated mail provider, or a platform that includes mail alongside the rest of the tools.

When this is the wrong answer

You want a mailbox and nothing else. Fastmail and Proton do that single job better than any platform bundling mail with a suite, and they cost less for it. Pick a dedicated provider and stop reading.

Can you get business email without Google or Microsoft?
Yes. Custom-domain mail is a commodity: several independent providers, and some business platforms, offer mailboxes on your own domain over standard IMAP, SMTP and CalDAV. The address stays yours regardless of who hosts it.
What is the best business email for Mac users?
Any provider supporting standard protocols works natively in Apple Mail and Calendar, which is what most Mac-first teams actually want. The differentiator is not the client but whether calendar and contacts sync as cleanly as mail does.
Do you lose your email address if you switch providers?
No, provided you own the domain. Addresses belong to the domain rather than the provider, so switching means repointing MX records and migrating existing mail. Only teams using a provider's own domain have to change addresses.
How long does a business email migration take?
The DNS cutover takes minutes. Moving historic mail is the long part and scales with volume rather than headcount. The practical constraint is running both systems briefly so nothing sent during the change is lost.
